Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 4 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1902 (2/Lieut. J. M. Craigie, N. Staff. Rgt.), very fine £240-280

John Maxwell Craigie was born in Chatham in January 1880, the son of a Captain, Royal Marines. Educated at Felstead, he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion, North Staffordshire Regiment in November 1899, and was advanced to Lieutenant in August 1900. However, having passed his examinations for a regular commission, he was drafted to the 2nd Battalion and witnessed active service in South Africa (Medal & 4 clasps). He accompanied the Battalion to India after the Boer War and was still similarly employed at the time of his death at Mooltan in December 1906; sold with copied research.
