Abyssinia 1867 (2107 W. Brien, H.M. 108th Regt.) suspension refitted, damage to crown reverse, contact marks, nearly very fine, scarce to unit £260-300

William Brien was born in Waterford. He attested for the 49th Regiment at Waterford on 5 January 1855, aged 18 years. Serving in the 49th and 108th Regiments, he served in Malta for 223 days; Crimea for 119 days; West Indies for over 3 years and the East Indies for 9 years. In addition to the Abyssinian War Medal, he was awarded the L.S. & G.C. with a gratuity of £5 in July 1876. He was discharged at Belfast at the termination of his second period of service on 19 October 1876. Just 10 men of the regiment received the Abyssinia Medal. The copied roll extract states the nature of his service on which he was employed there was as ‘Third Class Inspector’. Also with copied service papers.
