China 1857-60, 2 clasps, Taku Forts 1860, Pekin 1860 (Geo. Younghusband, 1st Bn. Mil. Train) officially impressed naming, medal detached from suspension, otherwise very fine £260-300

George Younghusband was a native of South Shields, Co. Durham. A Clerk by occupation, he enlisted into the 6th Dragoons at Westminster on 25 April 1855. He deserted between 29 August-27 October 1855. On his return he was tried by Garrison Court Martial, found guilty and sentenced to 84 days imprisonment with hard labour and to be marked ‘D’. Whilst Younghusband did his time in prison, fortunately his branding with the letter ‘D’ for deserter was remitted. Younghusband was transferred to the Military Train on 1 November 1856 and was later transferred to the Army Service Corps. He was discharged on 31 July 1877. The above was his only medallic award. With copied service notes.
