James Crawford was born in Glasgow. He attested for the 80th Regiment at Manchester on 8 December 1859, aged 26 years. With the regiment he served 5 years, 7 months in the East Indies. Discharged in June 1867, having been found medically unfit for further service. With copied service papers and roll extracts.
