Army of India 1799-1826, 1 clasp, Laswarree (R. Powell, 8th Lt. Dragns.) short hyphen reverse, officially impressed naming, two small edge bruises, otherwise good very fine and scarce £2600-3000

Approximately 100 clasps issued to European recipients for the battle of Laswarree but only 11 as single-clasp medals, including 7 to the 8th Light Dragoons.

Richard Powell was born in the Parish of Stepney, near Uxbridge, Middlesex, and enlisted for the 8th Light Dragoons on 25 October 1802, aged 15 years 4 months. He served with the regiment in India from 25 December 1803, until he transferred to the 16th Lancers, in India, on 25 September 1822. He was discharged at Cawnpore on 18 October 1824, and returned to England, landing at Gravesend on 18 July 1825, and was finally discharged on 11 August 1825, in consequence of chronic hepatitis. He was admitted to out-pension at Chelsea Hospital on 24 August 1825, and died on 16 December 1860. Sold with copied discharge papers and Chelsea Admission book entries.
