John Bell was born in the Parish of St Mary’s, near Carlisle, Cumberland, and enlisted at Carlisle on 8 January 1798. He served for a total of 23 years 229 days, over 15 years as Sergeant, and was present at the battle of Waterloo in Lieut.-Colonel Staples’ Company, for which he received an additional 2 years service. Sold with copied service papers.
