Memorial Plaque 1914-18 (Noah Garnham Smy) nearly extremely fine £80-100

Noah Garnham Smy was born in Orford, Suffolk on 19 April 1892. A Farm Labourer by occupation, he enlisted into the Royal Navy as a Stoker 2nd Class on 17 February 1913. Serving on the pre-dreadnought battleship H.M.S. King Edward VII, August 1913-January 1916, he was promoted to Stoker 1st Class in November 1913. Serving on the battleship H.M.S. Royal Oak, May 1916-February 1918, he was present at the battle of Jutland, 31 May/1 June 1916 and was advanced to Acting Leading Seaman in June 1917. Listed as serving on H.M.S. Hindustan from February 1918. Smy was wounded in action (gas poisoning) when serving on H.M.S. Intrepid in the Zeebrugge Raid. He died of his wounds on 27 April 1918 and was buried in Clopton (St. Mary) Churchyard, Suffolk.
