Francis Cock Wigton was born in Shanghai on 17 October 1914, the son of John Cock Wigton, a retired Marine Engineers and Annie Cock, who was born in Hong Kong. He was also the uncle of Peter C. Cunningham. Francis Cock Wigton served in the Australian Citizen Military Forces, 17 February 1942-26 October 1942 and in the Australian Imperial Forces from 27 October 1942-11 July 1946. Wigton was discharged as a Sergeant in the 43rd Australian Field Ordnance Depot.
