Six: Electrician J. H. Paul, Royal Fleet Auxiliary

Naval General Service 1915-62, 2 clasps, Palestine 1936-1939, Near East (J. H. Paul, Elect., R.F.A.) second clasp connected by cotton; 1939-45 Star; Africa Star, clasp, North Africa 1942-43; Italy Star; War Medal 1939-45; U.N. Korea 1950-54, these unnamed, mounted as worn, good very fine (6) £360-400

The medals to Jack Heron Paul with a silver half hunter pocket watch, reverse inscribed, ‘Presented to J. H. Paul, Byron Road School by the Gillingham Education Committee for securing first place at the Chatham Dockyard Examination for Apprentices 1915, September 20th 1915.’

Together with a silver presentation box, 162 x 133 x 33mm., hallmarks for Birmingham 1962, with wooden interior, lid inscribed:

‘Presented to Mr J. H. Paul by His Fellow Officers of R.F.A. Retainer on the Occasion of his Retirement from the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Service, R.F.A. Plumleaf 29.1.29 - 31.10.31; H.M.H.S. Maine, 26.5.32 - 3.9.45; R.F.A. Black Ranger, 29.1.46 - 28.7.46; R.F.A. Reliant, 22.8.46 - 22.1.48; R.F.A. Fort Duquesne, 28.48 - 25.3.48; R.F.A. Fort Rosalie, 3.6.48 - 26.8.52; R.F.A. Fort Beauharnois, 31.3.53 - 6.8.54; R.F.A. Black Ranger, 12.11.54 - 29.3.55; R.F.A. Olna, 26.4.55 - 25.1.57; R.F.A. Retainer, 28.10.57 - 25.6.64’

Also with riband bars; a large quantity of loose photographs (mainly naval) contained in a case, 30 x 20 x 8.5cm.; correspondence and receipts; R.F.A. Retainer Christmas Card; items of uniform (7); lapel badge; glazed frames (8) one 492 x 190mm., containing three old family (?) photographs; another, 494 x 190mm., containing an old letter, dated 20 December 1880 and two old photographs; another, 446 x 370mm., containing a Naval Message, stating “Commence hostilities at once with Germany” and a collage of naval photographs; another, 293 x 245mm., containing six wartime photographs; another, 346 x 298mm., containing ten wartime photographs; another, 300 x 248mm., containing five wartime photographs; another, 347 x 298mm., containing R.N. Movement Authorisation slip, to J. H. Paul, dated 21 August 1945; ration book to Joy D. Paul and a collage of naval related photographs; another, 269 x 216mm., containing the portrait photograph of the recipient.

Together with a wooden plaque bearing fragments of shell shrapnel, with the label, ‘H.M.H.S.
Maine September 6th 1941 Alexandria’; two rusty sheath knives with sheaths and sundry naval technical drawings.
