Pair: Private N. W. Oldfield, 10th Battalion Canadian Infantry, killed in action, France, 11 October 1918

Neville Wellesley Dennison Oldfield was born in Dublin, Ireland on 4 February 1896. A Farmer by occupation, he attested for the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force at Stratford on 30 September 1915. Serving with the 10th Battalion Canadian Infantry, he was killed in action in France on 11 October 1918, aged 22 years.

The official report of his death states: ‘Was attached to the 2nd Canadian Infantry Brigade Signal Section as a runner, and accompanied a party who were laying lines forward to the new Brigade Report Centre. They were approaching the village of Le Cluse when an enemy shell of heavy calibre burst in their vicinity, a splinter from it striking Private Oldfield, instantly killing him.’

Private Oldfield was buried in the Vis-en-Artois British Cemetery, Harcourt. He was the son of Mortimer Oldfield. With copied attestation papers and casualty details.
