Pair: Private J. Richards, 78th Battalion (Winnipeg Grenadiers) Canadian Infantry, killed in action, France/Flanders, 23 October 1918

Private John Richards was born in Devonshire and enlisted at Winnipeg on 5 March 1918. Whilst serving with the 78th Battalion (Winnipeg Grenadiers) Canadian Infantry, Richards was killed in action on 23 October 1918. The official report states: ‘While taking part in the advance towards the Escaut Canal on the Western outskirts of Valenciennes, he was shot through the head and instantly killed by an enemy sniper’s bullet.’ Richards was buried in the Denain Communal Cemetery. With copied service papers.
