James Hennessy was born in London, England on 7 June 1873. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force at Toronto on 15 July 1915, being a former member of the 24th Peterboro Battalion and a member of the 109th Regiment. Serving with the 18th Battalion (Western Ontario) Canadian Infantry, he was killed in action at the battle of the Somme, 15 September 1916. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial.
