George Richardson lived and enlisted at Doncaster. Serving in the Yorkshire Dragoons Yeomanry (Queen’s Own), he died of wounds on 27 October 1918, aged 24 years. He was buried in the Kezelberg Military Cemetery, Flanders. He was the son of John H. and Ellen Richardson, of 1 Carr Avenue, Doncaster.

With a letter to Mrs Richardson from G. W. Jefferies, 3 A.C.C.S.., E.F.F., dated 29 October 1918, ‘Dear Mrs Richardson, You will be grieved to hear of the death of your son Pte. G. Richardson 175667. Your son was admitted to our hospital 27.10.18 suffering from severe wound of L. Leg. Blood poisoning had set in, & they had to amputate the leg, hoping that by doing so, his life might be saved. But he was past our help & died at 6 p.m. that evening. He had very little suffering. Your son asked me to write to you & to give you his love, & tell you not to grieve for him. ....’; with envelope addressed to ‘Mrs Richardson, 1 Carr View Avenue, Balby, Doncaster’. Also with slip to accompany the plaque (not with lot); embroidered silk and lace handkerchief ‘Souvenir de Belgique 1918; embroidered card, ‘To my dear Mother from your loving son’, dated August 10 1917, France’; postcard photographs (9) including three of Private Richardson; Field Service Postcard stating he had been admitted to hospital; slip to accompany the British War and Victory Medals; War Office slip re his grave; newspaper extract re the unveiling of a memorial to the Yorkshire Dragoons at Doncaster Parish Church.
