Medals to son and father.

Harry Wilkinson was born in West Ayrton, near Scarborough, North Yorkshire. Serving with the West Yorkshire Regiment, he entered the Balkan theatre of war on 26 October 1915 and served at Sulva Bay and Egypt. With the 9th Battalion he served in France. He was posted ‘missing’ later presumed dead on 27 September 1916. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.


Medals to ‘H. Wilkinson’ in named card boxes of issue and with registered envelopes, addressed to F. of H. Wilkinson, of West Ayton, Scarborough. Plaque in paper and card envelopes, with associated slip and registered envelope addressed to ‘Mr F. Wilkinson, East Ayrton, West Ayrton, Yorkshire’; with Commemorative Scroll in tube similarly addressed. With crumpled photograph of the recipient in uniform and photos of the local war memorial (2) and church (1); a pencil sketch of a soldier; and an 8th Division B.E.F. Christmas Card 1917, ‘From Jim to my Aunty’; also with hand-written extracts taken from the
Scarborough Mercury concerning his loss.

The medal to Francis H. Wilkinson in named card box of issue - marked ‘Y.N.R.’ for ‘Yorkshire North Riding’. Some damage to boxes, envelopes etc.
