Three: Lieutenant A. L. Johnston, 1st Battalion King’s Shropshire Light Infantry, late 28th Battalion London Regiment, who was killed in action, Flanders, 22 April 1916

Private Alec Leith Johnston, 28th Battalion London Regiment entered the France/Flanders theatre of war in 1914. Commissioned on 12 February 1915. Serving as a Lieutenant in the 1st Battalion King’s Shropshire Light Infantry, he was killed in action, Flanders, on 22 April 1916. He was buried in the Essex Farm Cemetery, West Vlaanderen, Belgium. Lieutenant Johnston was the son of George F. Johnston, M.D., of 23 Seymour Street, Portman Square, London.

With silvered base metal locket bearing a photograph of Lieutenant Johnston and inscribed, ‘Alec 1889-1916’ and ‘Above and stronger than his wish for life was the wish to do his duty’. With a K.S.L.I. cap badge added for display purposes.
