Three: Private H. Groom, 11th Hussars, wounded and taken prisoner at Busigny, 26 August 1914

Harry Groom was born in Northampton. A Porter by occupation and a member of the 1st Volunteer Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, he attested for the 11th Hussars at Northampton on 25 January 1905, aged 19 years, 1 month. Transferred to the Reserve in 1912, he was recalled to the Colours in August 1914 and went with ‘A’ Squadron 11th Hussars to France on 15 August 1914. He was wounded and taken prisoner at Busigny, 26 August 1914 -initially being reported as ‘killed in action’. His wound was a fractured thigh due to his horse being shot and falling on his leg. As a prisoner-of-war he was held at Dulmen. He was repatriated via Switzerland and was discharged in 1919. With copied service papers, m.i.c. and other research. Clasp to 1914 Star not confirmed.
