Three: Private M. E. Groundrill, Northumberland Fusiliers, severely wounded in action, 27 August 1917

Star, with copy ‘slip-on’ clasp (2688 Pte., 1/North’d. Fus.) rosette on ribbon; British War and Victory Medals (2688 Pte., North’d. Fus.) mounted as worn, very fine (3) £100-140

Mark E. Groundrill enlisted on 6 July 1909. Serving in the 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 13 August 1914. He was wounded in action through enemy shelling on 27 August 1917. His wounds resulted in the loss of his left eye and a disabled left arm. He was discharged from the 3rd Battalion on 12 September 1918 due to these wounds. Entitled to the Silver War Badge (not with lot). With original photograph of the recipient and his wife (?); copied service and medical papers, m.i.c. and roll extracts - Clasp to 1914 Star confirmed. With Army Medal Office letter, dated 5 October 1955, to accompany the clasp and rosette for the 1914 Star and named card box of issue for these items. With cap badge added for display purposes.
