George James Medd was born in Windsor and lived and enlisted at Scarborough. Serving in the 20th Hussars, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 16 August 1914. He was killed in action on 30 October 1914, aged 20 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. He was the son of George and Agnes Medd, of 54 Trafalgar Road, Scarborough.

With the Scarborough Mercury, 7 September 1917 and copied research, including a copied group photograph featuring Lance-Corporal Medd. With copied m.i.c. - clasp confirmed. With 20th Hussars cap badge added for display purposes.
