Alfred Edwin Handscombe was born in Walworth, Surrey, lived in Chesunt and enlisted at Tottenham. Serving in the 1st Battalion Royal West Kent Regiment, he entered France/Flanders on 15 August 1914. He was killed in action on 25 March 1915. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
