William Charles Thomas Francis Richards was born in Birmingham. A Machinist by occupation and a member of the 6th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment, he attested for the Royal Welsh Fusiliers at Birmingham on 4 September 1899, aged 19 years, 11 months. He served in South Africa, August 1900-February 1903. In the Great War he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 6 October 1914. He was captured on 29 October 1914 and remained a prisoner-of-war of the Germans for the duration of the war. He was discharged in March 1919 being no longer fit for war service. Entitled to the 1914 Star trio of medals. With copied service papers, roll extracts and m.i.c. on paper and C.D.
