Frank Hallam was born in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire and enlisted in the Royal Army Medical Corps in February 1900, aged 28 years. By profession a chemist, he was in fact ‘specially enlisted as a compounder of medicine’ and served in a Bearer Company in South Africa from March 1900 until March 1902, prior to his discharge back in the U.K. after being found medically unfit for further service; sold with brief details.
