India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Burma 1885-7 (10 Pte., 2nd Bn. Som. L.I.) claw tightened but still slack; Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service, G.V.R. (Sergt., G.G.F.G.); Sons of England Patriotic Society Badge, silver-gilt and enamel, reverse inscribed, ‘To G. H. Glastonbury B.P. from Lodge Riverside No. 323 1919, with S.O.E.’ enamelled brooch bar, edge bruising, contact marks, nearly very fine and better (3) £220-260
George Glastonbury was born in Bagpark, Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire. He enlisted in the Militia on 5 May 1879, prior to joining the Regular Army on 11 July 1881. Serving with the Somerset Light Infantry, he earned the above I.G.S. medal. His service ended (time expired) c. 1893 but in 1900, aged 38 years, he re-enlisted in the 2nd Southern Reserve Regiment for one years service at home during the Boer War. Sometime prior to the Great War he migrated to Canada and joined the Governor General’s Foot Guards, eventually earning the long service medal. With copied ‘1879’ and ‘1900’ service papers.
