Five: Serjeant W. Burdett, King’s Royal Rifle Corps

Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 5 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (2874 Pte., K.R.R.C.); Africa General Service 1902-56, 2 clasps, Somaliland 1902-04, Jidballi (2874 Pte., 4th K.R.R.); 1914-15 Star (2874 Sjt., K.R. Rif. C.); British War and Victory Medals (2874 Sjt., K.R. Rif. C.) first two with edge bruising and contact marks, good fine and better (5) £360-400

Based on his service number Burdett enlisted in March 1900 into the 4th Battalion K.R.R.C. and served in the 1st Regiment Mounted Infantry. Sailing to South Africa in March 1901 the unit ultimately became the 4th Company 25th Mounted Infantry in Colonel Park’s Column. In January 1903 he went with his unit to Somaliland. As a Sergeant in the 1st Battalion K.R.R.C. Burdett entered France. He later transferred to the 18th Battalion (Arts & Crafts) K.R.R.C. Transferred to Class’ Z’ Reseve in 1919.
