China 1857-60, 2 clasps, Taku Forts 1860, Pekin 1860 (Geo. Beer, 2nd Bn. 60th Rl. Rifles) officially impressed naming; Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small reverse letters (3153 C. Serjt. G. J. Beer, 104th Foot); Army Meritorious Service Medal, G.V.R., 1st issue (C. Sjt. G. J. Beer, 104/Foot) with King’s Royal Rifle Corps and 104th Bengal Fusiliers cap badges, medals with contact marks and edge bruising, good fine and better (5) £500-600

George Beer was born in North Shields, Northumberland. He attested for the 60th Regiment at Westminster on 31 August 1858, aged 18 years. He served in India, November 1858-February 1860; China, February 1860-November 1861, and India, September 1866-December 1871. He was promoted to Corporal in March 1861 and to Serjeant in June 1862. In March 1863 he transferred to the 104th Regiment - formerly the Bengal Fusiliers, and was promoted to Colour Serjeant in March 1867. He re-engaged in December 1867; and was reduced to Serjeant, August 1870-September 1872. Colour Serjeant Beer transferred to the East Kent Volunteers in October 1876. Awarded the Army L.S. & G.C. with a gratuity of £5 in 1877. Awarded the M.S.M. on 9 August 1912 with an annuity of £10 - the medal presented by the Mayor of Ramsgate. Discharged at Dublin on 2 September 1879. Latterly Drill Instructor at St. George’s Boys School, Ramsgate. Known as a prominent Freemason. He died at his home in Ramsgate on 10 January 1915.
