George Rippon was appointed a 2nd Lieutenant on 11 August 1880 and promoted to Lieutenant in July 1881; Captain in August 1891; Major in August 1900 and Lieutenant-Colonel in June 1904. He served with the Burma Expedition in 1887-89 (Medal and clasp); in the Wuntho Expedition with the Southern Column in 1891 (Clasp); with the Manipore Expedition in 1891 as Deputy Assistant Quartermaster General to the Tammu Column (Mentioned in despatches and clasp); and in the operations in the Northern Chin Hills during 1891-92 as Transport Officer; during the latter part of the time as Transport Officer with the Burmah Lushai Relief Column (Clasp). Was commanding officer of the 89th Punjabis in 1904. Lieutenant-Colonel Rippon retired on 1 December 1912 but was recalled on 24 July 1915 and served in the U.K. as Lieutenant-Colonel with the 8th Battalion Liverpool Regiment. Latterly served as Lieutenant-Colonel of the 25th (Reserve) Garrison Battalion (Territorial) Rifle Brigade. With some copied research.
