Khedive’s Star, 1882, reverse privately impressed, ‘J.E. 1977 1st Bn. The R.S. Regt.’, very fine £80-100

James Edwards was born in Laston, near Buntingford, Herefordshire. A Bricklayer by occupation, he attested for the infantry on 14 January 1881, aged 21 years, 10 months. Posted to the Royal Sussex Regiment as Private 1977, he served in Cyprus, October 1881-September 1882 and in Egypt, September 1882-September 1885. Served in the Nile Expedition 1884-85 and was present at the battle of Abu Klea. Transferred to the Army Reserve in March 1886, he was discharged on 13 January 1893. With copied service papers and roll extracts.
