Khedive’s Star, 1882, reverse privately impressed, ‘T.Y. 2032 1st Bn. The R.S. Regt.’, very fine £80-100

Thomas Yates was born in Milton, near Gravesend, Kent. A Sailor by occupation, he attested for the 43rd Brigade at Colchester on 19 March 1881, aged 19 years, 4 months. Posted as Private 2032 in the 107th (Royal Sussex) Regiment, he served in Malta, January-July 1882 and in Egypt, July 1882-December 1885. Served in the Nile Expedition 1884-85 and was present at the battle of Abu Klea. Transferred to the Army Reserve in June 1886 and discharged on 18 March 1893. With copied service papers and roll and census extracts. Listed as ‘Yeates’ on roll.
