42 medals issued to the Jamestown Mounted Volunteer Rifles, Smith being the only bugler. He also appears on the roll of the 2nd Cape Mounted Yeomanry Regiment for the medal and clasp for ‘1879’ but that medal is recorded as having been returned to the Mint for melting.
