Joseph Phillips was born in Haverford West on 17 October 1834. Served as an Ordinary Seaman on the Belleisle during the China Campaign 1857-60. Discharged Impregnable, 3 August 1859. Having previously been sent to him on Narcissus, November 1862, his medal was sent to the man on 7 November 1888.
In the published roll, a ‘William Davis’, an Ordinary Seaman serving on the Chesapeake, born in Edinburgh, 22 April 1840 and discharged at Fisgard, 22 April 1862, is noted as having a duplicate medal issued. Both with copied roll extracts.
