Sutlej 1845-46, for Aliwal 1846, 1 clasp, Sobraon (Jas. Coomber 3rd Lt. Dragns.) good very fine £500-600

Private James Coomber was killed in action at the battle of Chilianwala on 13 January 1849.

He is mentioned in
Sergeant Pearman’s Memoirs for an incident during the action of Badowal [Buddiwal] on 21 January 1846: ‘One of the men of our Regiment, named Cumber, was taken prisoner. He was stripped naked for their sport, and when naked and being hunted about for sport, he managed to run from them. They fired several times at him, he said. But they missed him. He came to Ludhiana about 10 at night naked. He found his way by following the noise on our march.’
