Defence of Jellalabad 1842, Mural Crown (Lieut Hon: E. I. W. Forrester. XIII or P.A.L.I.) neatly engraved around obverse rim, pierced with ring and straight bar suspension, fitted with silver ribbon buckle, good very fine £800-1000

The Honourable Emilius John Weld Forester was born on 12 February 1815, fifth son of the 1st Baron Forester, of Wiley Park, Shropshire. He was appointed Ensign, by purchase, in the 13th Light Infantry on 28 December 1832, becoming Lieutenant on 9 April 1838, and Captain on 23 May 1845. He served throughout the campaigns in Afghanistan from 1838 to 1842, including the storm and capture of Ghuznee (medal), storming of Khoord Cabul Pass, affair of Tezeen, forcing the Jugdulluck Pass, reduction of the fort of Mammoo Khail, defence of Jellalabad and sorties on the 14th November and 1st December 1841, 11th March, 24th March and 1st April 1842, general action and defeat of Akbar Khan before Jellalabad (medal), storming the heights of Jugdulluck, general action of Tezeen and recapture of Cabul (medal). Captain Forester served as an aide-de-camp to Sir Willoughby Cotton in 1838, 39, and 40, and at Ghuznee. He was placed on half-pay on 13 January 1854, and died unmarried, in the rank of Colonel, on 29 January 1899.
