Private James Young served in Lieutenant-Colonel Sir William Gomm’s Company, 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards in the Waterloo Campaign. The 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards defended and held Hougoumont throughout the day of the battle, suffering 55 killed and 249 wounded.
