The Most Noble Order of the Garter, K.G., a Victorian Garter, 47.5cm. long, in blue silk with legend and ornamentation worked in gilt wire, lacking buckle, the ‘buckle end’ worn, otherwise in good condition; Colonial and Indian Reception Ball Invitation, in the Guildhall, The Rt. Hon. John Staples, F.S.A. Lord Mayor; inscribed, ‘Admit Sir Harry Lumsden’, numbered ‘4890’ - the colourful and highly decorated card invitation is mounted in a gilt frame, 35.5 x 25.5cm., this last in extremely good condition (2) £300-400

The Garter was formerly the property of George Tancred (formerly George Cleghorn) - author of The Historical Record of Medals and Honorary Distinctions, 1891. Both the Garter and the ‘Lumsden Certificate’ are ex-the Tancred / Lumsden family estate.

John Staples served as Lord Mayor of London in 1885.
