Medals Related to Navigation, France, Visite de l’Escadre Russe, Toulon and Paris, 1893, a large bronze award medal by L.-A. Bottée, seated figure of Russia welcoming figure of France, ships in background, cronstadt in exergue, rev. semi-naked figure of Fame blowing trumpet and proclaiming the visit, tablet below, un-named, 117mm (PBE –; ANS Exh. Cat. 1910, p.18, 39 [for obv.]; BDM I, 231). Very fine and very rare; set in a circular wooden frame with cord surround for suspension (£200-250)

The Russian Navy paid an official visit to Toulon in October 1893, where the French returned the hospitality extended to their navy when it visited Cronstadt in July 1891
