Switzerland, Internationale Gordon-Bennett Wettfliegen, Basle, 1932, a plated bronze award medal by H. Frei for Automobil Sternfahrt, two balloons above two buildings with spires, rev. female personification of Speed with arms outstretched, exergue engraved (A.C.S.), 75mm (cf. DNW 38, 968). Very fine and very rare (£60-80)

The 20th Coupe Aéronautique Gordon-Bennett, the starting point for which was at Kleinhüningen, Basle, on 25 September 1932, was contested by 16 balloons and won by the US Army pairing of Lt T.G.W. Settle and Lt E. Winfield Bushnell, whose craft flew a distance of 1550km, landing at Daugieliszki, Poland. Sold with a 6-page detailed eye-witness account of the race. Also see lots 1149 and 1150
