France, Compagnie des Chemins de Fer de l’Est, c.1910, a silver medal by F.-C.-V. de Vernon, female allegorical figure riding on buffers of a steam locomotive, rev. train emerging from a tunnel into a landscape, 40mm (Moyaux 277bis; PBE 984; BM Acq. 1983-7, p.26, 159; cf. Swan 290-1; cf. DNW 49, 928). About extremely fine (£40-60)

The traditional attribution of this medal to Frédéric de Vernon (1858-1912) may be in some doubt; the style of the locomotive on the obverse may indicate a post-War design, which infers the medallist was his son Jean Vernon (1897-1975)
