Wyon, diademed bust of Victoria left, rev. three shields on wreath, 28mm (BHM 2186; E 1392); Germany, Philip, Baron von Stosch, 1727, a copper medal by F.J. Marteau, bust right, rev. robed figure greeting naked bearded man, 41mm (BDM III, 587) [2]. First extremely fine and toned, second very fine and patinated (£25-35)

Philip von Stosch (1691-1757), Prussian archaeologist and collector of ancient art, gems and manuscripts, who invented the monocle; he lived at the Via del Malcontendi in Florence
