William Trice was born in Winsborough, near Sandwich, Kent. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for the 12th Regiment at Rochester on 9 January 1863, aged 20 years, 11 months. With the regiment he served in Australia and New Zealand for over 7 years and in India for over four. He was discharged at Netley on 21 June 1881, being unfit for further service; his intended place of residence being Devonport. With copied service papers and roll extracts.
