India General Service 1895-1902, 1 clasp, Punjab Frontier 1897-98 (4067 Pte. C. Balchin, 1st Bn. Ryl. W. Surr. Regt.) edge bruising, contact marks, nearly very fine £100-140

Charles Balchin was born in Kirkford, near Petworth, Sussex. A Stick Maker by occupation, he attested for the 3rd Battalion Royal West Surrey Regiment (Militia) on 20 June 1892, aged 22 years. He attested for regular service with the regiment 11 August 1892. Served overseas in Malta, March-November 1893 and the East Indies, January 1895-November 1904. Discharged on 5 November 1904. At the time of his discharge he was in possession of three good conduct badges and the above medal. With copied service papers.
