Terrence Dempsey was born in Edgeworthstown, Co. Longford and enlisted at Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, originally serving as Private 9720 in the East Lancashire Regiment. As a Private in the 1st Battalion Leinster Regiment he entered France/Flanders on 19 December 1914. He was killed in action on 5 May 1915, aged 23 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. He was the son of Terence and Bridget Dempsey, of Braklin Road, Edgeworthstown, Co. Longford.
