Charles Haughton was born near Bolton, Lancashire. A Bleacher by occupation, he attested for the Rifle Brigade at Manchester on 7 April 1813, aged 18 years. With the regiment he served three and a half years in France and eleven years in America. Served in the 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade at the battle of Waterloo, 18 June 1815. Discharged as unfit for further service in December 1836. With copied service papers.
