William Purnell/Parnell was born in the Parish of Trowbridge, Wiltshire, and was enlisted into the 32nd Foot in 1807 at the age of 16 years. He served in the Peninsula from 1808 but his adult service did not begin until his 18th birthday on 20 April 1809. He was present in the Waterloo campaign in Captain David Davies’s Company and suffered a ‘gunshot wound of left leg received in action on the 18th day of June 1815 at Waterloo’. He was consequently discharged at Fort George Barracks, Guernsey, on 30 July 1816. Sold with copied discharge papers.
