Walter Saled enlisted on 4 July 1901. Serving with the 1st Battalion North Staffordshire Regiment, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 10 September 1914. Served in the 17th Infantry Brigade, 6th Division, in Pulteney’s III Army Corps. The regiment was caught up in heavy fighting at Armentieres in October 1914. Sales was discharged due to wounds on 28 February 1916 and awarded the Silver War Badge (not with lot). With copied roll extract and m.i.c. - clasp confirmed.
