Private Robert Charles Henry Rose, 1st Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 13 August 1914. The battalion was placed in the 2nd Infantry Brigade, 1st Division, in Haig’s I Army Corps. They had their baptism of fire near Courchamps on the Marne, 10 September 1914. In the battle of the Aisne, 14 September 1914, they took part in the attack on Troyon, on the British left. In the battle of Ypres, October 1914, they were stationed at Klein Zillebeke before being forced back. In November they served near Gheluvelt and were near Polygon Wood in December. Rose was discharged as physically unfit through sickness on 7 May 1915 and awarded the Silver War Badge (not with lot). With copied roll extract and m.i.c. - clasp confirmed.
