Lance-Corporal Samuel Hudson, 2nd Battalion Welsh Regiment, entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 13 August 1914. Served in the 3rd Infantry Brigade, 1st Division, in Haig’s I Army Corps. Involved in the battle of the Aisne in September and at Lagemarck in October. Heavily involved in the fighting around the villages of Zandvoorde and Gheluvelt which saved the town of Ypres, 31 October 1914 but at a cost of some 600 casualties. Defended Festubert in December 1914. With copied m.i.c. - clasp confirmed.
