R.) note minor variation in spelling; Silver War Badge (B303461); together with a fob watch, approx. 28mm. dia., silvered case, reverse inscribed, ‘Mons, Marne, Aisne & Ypres. L/C A. R. Private Arthur Reddell, 2nd Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment, entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 12 August 1914. The regiment served in the 6th Infantry Brigade, 2nd Division, in Haig’s I Army Corps. They took part in the retreat from Mons in August. With hand-to-hand fighting on the Sambre Bridge near Maroilles. Supported the Guards Brigade’s withdrawal from Villers Cotterets, 1 September 1914. Reddell was discharged due to wounds on 28 February 1919 and awarded the Silver War Badge. With copied roll extract and m.i.c. - clasp not confirmed.
