Charles E. Pearce enlisted on 29 August 1905. Serving with the 1st Battalion Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 21 August 1914. The unit served in the 14th Infantry Brigade, 5th Division, in Smith-Dorrien’s II Army Corps. At Mons they held the line from the railway bridge at Les Herbieres to Pommeroel. Pearce was discharged due to sickness on 17 April 1916. Awarded the Silver War Badge (not with lot). With copied m.i.c. - clasp confirmed.
