Isaac Taylor enlisted on 5 August 1913. Serving with the 2nd Battalion King’s Own Scottish Borderers, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 15 August 1914. The battalion formed part of the 13th Infantry Brigade, 5th Division, in Smith-Dorrien’s II Army Corps. At Mons, on 22 August 1914, the battalion held the line from St. Ghislain to Les Herbieres. By 24 August the German III Corps were pressing strongly at Les Herbieres. The K.O.S.B. were on the right of the line. British rifle fire drove the Germans back. In the defence of Le Cateau, the K.O.S.B. were in both the centre and right of the line. On 1 September 1914, the 13th Brigade was attacked near Crepy, a few miles east of Nery. In October 1914 the battalion was at Givenchy. At the end of the month they were defending Messines, a critical part of the Ypres Salient. Taylor was discharged on 10 January 1919 and awarded the Silver War Badge (not with lot). With copied roll extracts and m.i.c. - clasp confirmed.
