2313 Private James Morton, 2nd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, from Bolton, entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 22 August 1914. The unit was heavily involved at Le Cateau, it lost 70%, killed, wounded, missing, from the 27 officers and 974 other ranks who had disembarked at Boulogne. Morton later served as 1067 Private in the Army Cyclist Corps, with whom he earned the Military Medal (London Gazette 17 June 1919). With copied gazette extracts and m.i.c. - clasp not confirmed.
