Private Charles H. Smith, 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 13 August 1914. The Fusiliers formed part of the 9th Infantry Brigade, 3rd Division, in Smith-Dorrien’s II Army Corps. Smith was later transferred to the Royal Engineers. With copied m.i.c. - clasp confirmed.
